Stress and Trauma

There are big T’s and little t’s in life (BIG traumas and little traumas) that can follow us around for years. It is often said that it is not the size of the event itself, but the mark on our psyche, that matters. We might do fine after a car accident or a termination from a job, but feel hurt from something said to us in passing by another person 20 years ago. Whether it is a seemingly big or little event, it may still make a big dent in how we feel. Therapy can help with tools for relaxation and stress management. Some clients receive alot of relief through telling their story and processing the past with a counselor who can help them make sense of all the feelings. We will look closely at past events, relationships, family history, and other part of your past that have contributed to your struggle. In addition to how stress and trauma affect your mood, emotions, and thinking, we will address how your body and central nervous system are responding in “fight or flight” mode. I will help you with tools to help you get your body and mind back to a state of calm and equilibrium. I also provide EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is a highy effective and widely used tool for treating PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
